2/20/2010 The Redemption of Burke-Crenshaw in Pasadena PDF Print E-mail

You can never keep a disc golf course down!

February 20th was one of those Saturdays that are custom made for disc golf. The weather was cool and sunny at Burke-Crenshaw on the morning of the park's redemption. For the first time in the park's history eighteen disc golf baskets were on the ground for a Birdshot mini. Thanks to eight volunteered baskets from Leslie Trahan, Ryan Schmidt, Chris MacGregor, Tiffany Brogdon (who brought two!), Billy Gilbert, Gene Engle and Rick Hopper, we were about to play the full proposed 18-hole course at the park. Thirty-one disc golfers showed up at the park for the one-day eighteen-hole course and we had fun doing it.

Brian "Boo" Pearson took first place in the advanced division after edging Chris "Griff" Van da Griff in a play-off, they both shot three under on the course. Terry Ewton took the Grand Masters division by one stroke with a four over par. He was followed by Chuck "DP Discer" Conaway and Billy "Birdshot" Gilbert with five and seven over par respectively. Tony Loya had the lowest score of the day in the Intermediate division with a six under on the course. Cory Cardenas and Ryan Badhe tied for second in Intermediate each with three under. The Rec division was lead by Dax Nutt with one over par. He was followed by course-designer Tyler Knittle with two over in second, Dane Williams with four over in third, Chris "Sidearm" MacGregor took fourth with 60, Tiffany Brogdon in fifth at 61 and Jason Riffe in sixth with 65. The ladies battled it out in Rec Women and Leslie Trahan took first over Jessica Jubin.

The Call for Temporary Baskets:

Last year was tough on Pasadena's only disc golf course. The city took out five of the nine baskets to make way for a girls softball complex leaving the course with only four lonely baskets. This year the course is being revitalized by Tyler Knittle who took on the task of working with the Pasadena Parks department to redesign Burke-Crenshaw as a 18 hole course. Right now only 10 baskets are in the ground and we're hoping to get eight more temporary baskets donated for this event. If we can get a commitment of people bringing out temporary baskets for this mini, we can let people see what the final design will look like. If you want to commit to bringing out a temp basket on Feb. 20th, email Chuck Conaway.

It looks like we will be able to play the entire 18 hole course. This is not the final course design (Birdshot made some modifications for the mini) but you will get to play what Tyler Knittle is proposing for 7 of the 8 new holes. There is a map further down the page.
