On a cold and windy morning sixty-five players showed up at the Berry's Treasure course on Port Arthur's Pleasure Island to throw in the 8th Annual Pleasure Island Classic. The tournament, hosted by Birdshot and Golden Triangle Disc Golf Club, was a great success with over $1,300 in prize payouts.
Pro Matt Hall had the best performance of the day shooting two 1000+ rated rounds for a total of 14 under par. In the Advanced division Dustin Glamor and Neal Martinez tied at 5 under and Dustin won out in the playoff. The Intermediate division went to Cody Carothers after he edged out C.J. Hopper in a playoff for division first place. Recreational division went to Reuben Whitaker who went just three over on the day. In the Novice division Rex Murphy took first.
The tournament had two women's divisions; Rec and Advanced. In Advanced Tracy Petre bested Kat Bender after a playoff that went five holes and Lesli Trahan took the Rec division for women.
In the age-protected divisions Don Young took first in the Advanced Masters division with a combined five over par. Bart Taylor took the Advanced Grandmasters division with a four over on the day.
The tournament had two aces on the cards, both Tony Bender and Richard Wallen shot an ace during the day. After the tournament they both split the day's Ace Pot!
After the tournament was over the top four players competed in a four-hole pro-caliber skins game sponsored by Golden Triangle Disc Golf Club with the winner of each hole taking $25 for each hole.
